Authorities: 3 killed after fleeing traffic stop
Putnam County authorities say a sheriff’s deputy in a marked cruiser began following the Nissan Maxima after he observed it driving erratically about a mile from the Putnam-Connecticut border early Saturday.
DANBURY, CONN A driver and two passengers in a vehicle were killed Saturday morning when they crashed in CT after fleeing a traffic stop in Putnam County.
There is no word on the conditions of the other two people who were in the auto. Boughton said that the deputy was taken to a local hospital for observation. He said the Sheriff was breaking off the pursuit, and the vehicle continued to travel at a high rate of speed.
About three-quarters of a mile into Connecticut, Smith decelerated but the suspect’s auto accelerated away. The Sheriff’s Office headquarters was radioed to notify the Danbury Police Department to be on the lookout for the vehicle.
The driver lost control of the auto about 15 seconds later and struck a utility pole on Mill Plain Road, killing three men including the driver, police said. No identities have yet been released. The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office is conducting an internal review of the events preceding it.
