Officials have not been able to make any arrests in this case.
The meeting comes after the task force blasted the coroner on September10 over the release of information sensitive to the case.
Covelli on Monday refused to provide any of the test results. “I prefer that major crimes task force is taking the thorough amount of time they are taking because I know that they’re working around the clock and making sure that this is done properly and 100 percent correct, regardless of how long that may take”, said D.J. Gliniewicz. He said that a K9 searching in the marshy area “positively tracked away from a scene” and was tracking on at least one suspect.
Authorities have said three men whose images were captured by a nearby home surveillance camera did not kill Gliniewicz. Gliniewicz told the Arlington Heights Daily Herald (http://bit.ly/1UVryFP ) that his father “never once had a single suicidal thought in his life” and that his family is upset about any suggestion that he killed himself. The son said his father had also applied for several chief-of-police positions.
Covelli also spoke about initial information gathered that has led police to believe Gliniewicz was killed.
“This is given the highest priority”, said Larry Kobilinsky, professor of forensic science at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York.
Additionally, a local government official familiar with the investigation says the lieutenant was hit twice: once in his protective vest and once at an angle that allowed the bullet to enter his chest.
“That’s based on the facts and evidence we’ve learned to this point”, Detective Chris Covelli said.
“There is no doubt in my mind as to whether they know it was his gun or not”, he said.
He said more than one gunshot was sackedat the crime scene.
