Authorities Respond to Report of Mass Shooting in San Bernardino
Before police were able to box in the shooters, State Representative and former San Bernardino Mayor Pete Aguilar took to Twitter to warn the residents of San Bernardino to lock their doors and stay inside their homes or offices and ensure their safety.
One of the suspects in Wednesday’s mass shooting in San Bernardino, Calif.has been identified as Syed Farook, according to reports.
Burguan said the suspects were wearing “assault-style clothing” and were both armed with assault rifles and handguns.
Police forces started a manhunt that included a door to door search for some suspect who fled the scene in San Bernardino, situated about 60 miles east of Los Angeles.
A vehicle matching that description turned up at the shootout with police several hours later, city police spokeswoman Sergeant Vicki Cervantes.
Exact details are unconfirmed at this stage, but CNN and ABC reported that there were at least 12 fatalities, while authorities said there could be up to three shooters.
Investigators were also looking at the possibility they had left an explosive device at the scene of the shooting. “The information we have is that they came prepared to do what they did as if they were on a mission”.
According to one man whose his wife worked in the Inland Regional building told KABC-TV that at least one gunman walked into the center at began open fire around 11 AM.
A “hard closure” was in effect at Orange Show Road / Waterman Avenue and Park Center Circle in San Bernardino, the Sheriff’s Department tweeted.
However, he’s not sure if the person-in-question is actually involved with the San Bernardino tragedy. The center’s Facebook page says it employs almost 670 people at its facilities in San Bernardino and Riverside counties, providing service to more than 30,200 people.
Police said they had no knowledge of any children being involved. “We must take action to stop gun violence now”, Hillary Clinton, the Democratic presidential, candidate said. She managed to lock herself in her office.
A woman who works at a building where the shootings occurred texted her father: “Shooting at my work”.
“We should never think that this is something that just happens in the ordinary course of events, because it does not happen with the same frequency in other countries”, said Obama, who called for tighter gun control after a shooting in Colorado last Friday killed three people.
