Authorities say 1 person shot, wounded inside auto outside Statesville
School had already been released for the day when the shooting happened.
Police say a man and woman and a 3-year-old child went to the school to pick up the woman’s child who is in the third grade. It appears the wife shot her husband inside a vehicle in front of the couple’s two children.
The husband, who was found on the ground outside his truck, was taken to an area hospital for injuries from the shooting, WBTV reported. She was in custody late Tuesday but her name hasn’t been released. His injuries are not known.
Iredell County deputies said the incident stemmed from a domestic dispute, and the victim’s wife is being questioned.
Authorities recovered the weapon from the scene in the parking lot.
Reports say the woman carried the second child into the school as well to inform personnel there of the shooting. The school was still placed on lockdown as a precaution.
Sheriff Darren Campbell said that although no students were injured, some on a nearby playground may have heard or seen the events unfold. However, 75 students and faculty members were still on campus for after-school activities. But no children were hurt at the time.
The couple has a student at the school, and the couple rode together over to the school, deputies said.
