Authorities stepping up DUI patrols for Halloween weekend
The Pueblo Police Department and Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office will be among the agencies participating in the enforcement period.
The church will host a service at 5:30 p.m.
Gutier said those planning to party their Halloween away should plan on using a designated driver or another means of finding a ride home. “There is never an excuse for driving after drinking”.
“Don’t be afraid of a DUI arrest this weekend”.
Seat belt use is the most effective way to protect people and reduce fatalities in motor vehicle crashes, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Ticketed motorists were found to be driving on suspended licenses or to be unlicensed drivers.
“It’s an increase possibility of children getting injured cause there’s a lot more people on the street cause majority walk”.
“We want everyone to enjoy the Halloween festivities and to do so responsibly by having a sober designated driver, calling a friend, or taking a taxi home”, GOHS Director Alberto Gutier said. Ride sharing services such as Uber and Lyft are also safer alternatives to drunk driving.
Since its inception in 1998, Tow to Go has safely removed more than 24,000 impaired drivers from roads across the Southeast. “But they should know if they choose to drive impaired, they are a danger to themselves and others on our roadways, and they will be arrested”.
“We saturate the area with uniform patrol and look for any drivers that aren’t operating the vehicle safely, serving inconsistent signaling, basically not driving in a proper manner”, said Officer Tim Hughes, with Baltimore Police.
A first-offense DUI can cost around $16,000 for legal fees, time off from work, time spent in jail and other costs, according to McCullough.
