Auto workers donating drinking water to Flint residents
MI which has declared a state of emergency for the city, says it’ll work with the federal government to determine what additional resources are available. We tend to associate human rights violations with war crimes, child labor and other bad things we assume only happen in far-flung parts of the world.
“We wanted in”, said Gladyes Williamson, 61, of Flint.
“It will take some time but we will get to that point”, Snyder said.
“You have to earn trust”, Snyder said. “And that is something I apologize for in terms of the state’s role in all of this”.
It’s time for Rahm Emanuel, the mayor of Chicago, and Rick Snyder, the governor of MI, to decide to spend more time with their respective families.
Several GoFundMe sites aimed at raising money to help people affected by the water crisis have been seeing major increases in donations in recent days.
Flint’s drinking water became contaminated with lead in April of 2014 when the city switched its drinking water from Lake Huron water treated at the Detroit water treatment plan to more corrosive and polluted Flint River water treated at the Flint water treatment plant.
“It does let us know that our voice is being heard”, Weaver said. But in order to make Flint River water safe for people, it has to receive a special anti-corrosion treatment. At City Hall on Thursday, where signs advertise free water filters, Quintina Swanson stopped by to pick up a replacement cartridge.
“Those actions were not good enough”.

As the governor and mayor of Flint try to figure out how to deal with the crisis, protesters continued to call for Snyder’s dismissal over the handling of the water crisis.
This emergency goes beyond simply a public health problem.
Now they are scrambling to address a situation that has endangered the health of Flint’s children and generated untold costs and anxiety. I’m waiting to see what the investigation shows.
Noise could be heard from outside the room where the news conference was held by residents angry they were not allowed to attend. Protesters repeated chants calling for the governor’s ouster until police officials, who were standing between protesters and the chambers, asked them to remain quiet.
