Avalanche RW Jarome Iginla scores 600th career goal
Jarome Iginla’s 600th goal came with 6:48 left in the third period with the Avalanche leading the Kings 3-1.
The Los Angeles Kings can build their third winning streak of six or more games this season when they visit the Colorado Avalanche on Monday.
One could say it was Barrie’s second goal, which came just 1:19 after Toffoli’s game-tying goal, but really, the Kings had plenty of time to rebound from that and never really did.
Overshadowed by Iginla’s milestone evening was the play of Barrie, who had two goals and two assists.
He is the Flames’ all-time leader in goals with 525, points (1,095) and games played (1,219). In addition to Iginla’s moment, defenseman Tyson Barrie had a four-point game, scoring twice and contributing two assists.
Jarome Iginla of the @Avalanche became the 19th player in National Hockey League history to reach the 600-goal milestone.
The home struggles of the Colorado Avalanche have been a growing concern for the team as they embark on their quest to return to the playoffs and their 2016 opener saw a 4-0 shutout to a bad Calgary Flames team only serve to enhance the worries over the team’s play at home.
In 40 games this season, Iginla has 11 goals and 21 points. “How hard he trains… he’s probably got another 100 in him if he wants”. “You try not to think about it, you try to focus, but every scoring chance you get, you think “maybe it will be this one” it was nice to get it and hopefully now it’s past”.
Enroth stepped into the net to give Jonathan Quick a night off. Quick was named the NHL’s first star of the week Monday after going 4-0 with a 1.00 goals-against average. Toffoli and Kopitar passed the puck back and forth like a ping-pong ball before Toffoli blasted a slapshot by Semyon Varlamov from the left side of the net.
“We hung our goalie out to dry way too many times”, Kopitar said. He signed with the Boston Bruins as a free agent after the season and scored 29 goals in 82 games in 2013-14.
L.A. has been able to step up despite losing Jeff Carter, who is still out with an injury that he suffered during the game against Phoenix.
Colorado would take the 2-1 lead into the start of the third but all was not roses as Avs defenseman Erik Johnson was injured early in the second period and ruled out with a “lower body injury” after the second period.
