‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Movie: Director Anthony Russo Talks About the
And though Marvel fanatics got to see Captain America (Chris Evans), Iron Man (Robert Downey, Jr.), Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), Falcon (Anthony Mackie), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), War Machine (Don Cheadle), Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), and even Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) in the much-anticipated teaser, what was so obviously missing was any sign of Spider-Man. Though, as with Spider-Man, he does admit that crossovers are certainly possible.
“It is a smaller scale version of the problem that exists when remembering that Fox holds the rights to some of Marvel’s most popular characters, as does Sony and others”, he added. For instance, at one time there were rumors of plans for the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. cast to crossover into the films. “As storytellers, we only have control over what happens in Marvel movies, but everything is possible, Spider-Man (whose rights were held by Sony) became possible!”
Although Jessica Jones and Daredevil exist in the same universe as The Avengers, there are still some inconsistencies that make them feel separate from the movies.
But, since Spider-Man is coming to the MCU, and he’s a New York City-based hero, it would be pretty odd if he wasn’t mentioned in the Netflix shows, or vice versa in his 2017 solo movie.
Part of that complication may also be from the animosity between Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige and Marvel Entertainment President Ike Perlmutter.
Those who have been following the behind-the-scenes stories of Marvel Studios already know that the reason there won’t be a crossover goes beyond basic creative choices. Let TV stay gritty and movies stay lighthearted! However, Russo did leave the door open as a remote possibility.
For instance, if the crew decides the fate of a character in the story happens a certain way, then it wouldn’t be able to line-up its own timeline with that of Avengers: Infinity War 1 and 2, which are both scheduled for 2018 and 2019. After 12 movies, we’ve come to expect that Marvel will give us heroes in which we can invest, stories that interesting and a good mix of humor and serious action. The superhero is set to return to the big screen under the Marvel Studios banner, with Tom Holland playing the role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man. In the comic books, Peter Parker even has his encounter with the Daredevil arch-rival, Kingpin. Who will take up the mantle of drinking toxic amounts of booze now that Iron Man’s a teetotaler?
