Avril Lavigne Returns to Stage for Special Olympics Opening Ceremony
Following Friday’s rehearsal for the opening ceremony, Avril took to Instagram to express her gratitude for being able to perform again.
Welcome back to the stage, Avril Lavigne!
On Saturday, the singer returned to the stage for her first live performance in over a year, performing her uplifting empowerment anthem “Fly” during the Opening Ceremony of the Special Olympics World Games in Los Angeles.

“This was a very handsome night for me”, she wrote on Instagram.
But there she was, handsome with long blonde locks and a backless gown, absolutely nailing a performance her song “Fly” for the crowd, completely defiant of the Lyme disease that had her bed ridden just months ago. “This went on and off for a month”, she said.
Reported by Bang News, the “Sk8er Boi” singer was bedridden when she was diagnosed with the disease. “And I saw my doctor right away, got blood tests, got swabbed, and they didn’t really know what was wrong with me”. I really just want to go out there and truly do what I love so I’m excited for life after this. “I wrote this song to encourage people who are facing challenges, to encourage strength and to empower”, she said.
Lavigne is now working on her sixth studio album, which will serve as the follow-up to her 2013 self-titled collection.
Stars that also attended the 2015 Special Olympics included, Eva Longoria, Colin Farrell, Justin Bieber, Michael Phelps, Maria Shriver, Stevie Wonder and First lady Michelle Obama.
