AWS pushes out new services at Cloud Summit
The fully managed, pay-as-you-go service allows developers to put APIs into all of the software that they build. Developers can connect all types of applications to API implementations that run on AWS Lambda, Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud, or a publicly hosted service outside of AWS.
Touting success stories is not a novelty in keynotes, but Vogels’ strategic buildup tied directly into one of AWS’ big announcements of the day. The service includes testing tools like Appium, Calabash, and Espresso and spits out reports once they’ve run.
(AWS), an Amazon.com company (NASDAQ:AMZN), today announced AWS Device Farm, a new service that helps mobile app developers quickly and securely test their apps on smartphones, tablets, and other devices to improve the quality of their Android and Fire OS apps. Developers upload their code into the service and it automatically tests it and informs the developer which devices it works on and which it doesn’t.
The idea of a device farm is quite cute, but AWS is of course working different angles.
Appian, provider of an application platform for Business Process Management (BPM) and Case Management solutions, today announced its participation as an inaugural partner in the Amazon Web Services (AWS) SaaS Partner Program.
Amazon sees a major opportunity in helping organizations solve that challenge as the number of connected devices on the corporate network continues to multiply, much like MuleSoft Inc., Apigee Inc. and the several other vendors that have already been offering cloud-based API management. AWS Device Farmalso makes it easy for developers to focus on the most important issues by providing comprehensive, actionable reports as tests are completed. If successful, AWS will be directly or indirectly embedded in multiple enterprise accounts. And for those wary about handing over their pre-release apps to a third-party who may or may not have tough security to prevent against things getting out, Amazon says that devices running tests are isolated – meaning that no other apps are simultaneously being tested on the same device – and apps are wiped immediately after each test is finished. “AWS Device Farm’s simple UI has made deployment easier, enabling New Relic to more rapidly test across a wide variety of hardware and provide valuable results in minutes”.
“CodePipeline is a continuous delivery service for software”, Barr said. “With AWS Device Farm, we’ve been able to test our games incredibly efficiently and cost effectively at scale. Great for both player satisfaction and the bottom line!” And, companies have to build and manage systems to authorize access to APIs and verify incoming API requests before granting access to the back-end services. “AWS Device Farm helps us streamline our testing procedures and allows us to provide our clients with stable and consistent products”.
