AWS tries to protect its customers from DDoS attacks with new service

Cloud services and IoT is trending rapidly and numerous startups and multinational companies are adopting the service. Amazon is also looking into an export service with Snowmobile, which would allow you to get data out of AWS at this same shipping container scale.

AWS is set to launch its first UK datacentre next year which will give UK public sector bodies the opportunity to meet certain data sovereignty requirements in the public cloud, which AWS partner Cloudreach claims will threaten the business model of UK hosting providers.

These new products, announced Wednesday, are aimed at helping companies get large amounts of data into Amazon’s cloud, which will then encourage them to stick with the company’s services going forward.

The goal of both Snowmobile and Snowball Edge is that companies reduce their data centers to store their information in Amazon’s cloud.

Amazon went part way to solving this issue past year when it introduced a data transfer appliance called AWS Snowball, which looks like a large desktop PC.

Jassy also informed that Amazon would be launching a new analytics product called Amazon Athena which is an interactive query service that allows users to analyze data in S3 using SQL. It is water-proof, climate-controlled, and can be parked in a covered or uncovered area adjacent to your existing data center. The container hooks up to a customer’s network and appears as a local storage volume that files can be transferred to in encrypted form. “Most importantly, customers and prospects in the FinServ vertical know that in working with REAN Cloud there is assurance and trust that we have the right blend of AWS, security and compliance, and domain expertise along with experience in implementing enterprise transformations”. Partners in this category provide data aggregation hardware and/or software connecting edge devices to the cloud and providing on premise intelligence as well as connecting to enterprise IT systems.
