Ayatollah: ‘Death to America’ Is a Slogan ‘Backed by Reason and Wisdom’
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei continues to claim that the infamous “Death to America” chant is not actually against the American people. Khamenei reportedly discussed the slogan while meeting with students for the anniversary of the Iranian hostage crisis.
Iran’s leader can’t understand why Americans are so against that whole “Death to America” chant he loves to lead.
“The message of the Iranian nation today is that they will protect the Revolution’s achievements with perseverance and consistency, national awareness and the guidance of the Leader”, said Rouhani.
“Your “Death to America” slogan, and the cries by the Iranian nation, have strong logical support behind them”, he said, according to The Associated Press. “The slogan means death to United States policies and arrogance” – a construction that doesn’t roll off the tongue quite as easily as “Death to America”.
“After four decades, a few write off chants of “Death to America” as empty rhetoric”, the California Republican said in an op-ed piece for Fox News. The agreement promises Tehran relief from crippling economic sanctions in exchange for curbs on its nuclear programme. “Secretary of State John Kerry are Facebook friends”, said Trita Parsi, founder and president of the National Iranian American Council.
This unbridled fear of American influence has also been cited to explain the arrest and eventual conviction of Jason Rezaian, a Washington Post journalist whose articles on Iranian society and culture were well-recognized for their positive tone and their strict obedience to official restrictions on journalistic freedom. “I think the increased contact will lead to detente with the USA, but we have a lot of harsh repression to go through before we get there”.
Legislators said on Monday that the government and the parliament must “act carefully in line with the honourable leader’s wise guidance” in the aftermath of the nuclear deal, referring to supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
The video was released just days after Iran tested a new precision-guided ballistic missile, the Emad, which will be the its first weapon able to accurately strike targets in its arch-enemy Israel.
Others carried banners rejecting USA fast food chains McDonald’s and Starbucks.
Despite a thaw in relations during the nuclear talks, Iran’s hardliners are wary of embracing any Western-style restaurants, which they say is “behavior contrary to Islamic-Iranian culture and traditions”.
He reiterated his warning that the U.S.is not to be trusted despite the nuclear deal reached with the US, Britain, France, Russia, China and Germany.
A military source in Qatar said Iran’s missile capability was considered the biggest conventional military threat to Gulf Arab countries, as well as US military bases in the region and global shipping routes.
