Ved never said how much Google rewarded him for the sale cancellation, but the company recently revealed it in a blog post.
In a LinkedIn post, Ved, a former Google employee, explained using screen shots of the entire transaction how he purchased Google.com from the technology leader’s own domain-buying service, and briefly owned it.
In 2010, Google started giving cash rewards to researchers who reported flaws in its services. The student took screenshots to document how he made the purchase. He completed the purchase and his credit card was charged without error.
Google then doubled the amount of money to $12,000 after Ved said he wanted to donate it to charity.
“My Google Search Console (aka Google Webmaster Tools) was auto-updated with webmaster related messages for the Google.com domain which actually means ownership was transferred to me!”
“A odd thing happened at 1:20 AM Eastern Time on Tuesday, September 29”, wrote Ved.
“Google Security has now contacted me, and offered me a $x reward in a very Googley way”, Ved said in September. The company’s security rewards year-in-review for 2015 revealed the answers on Thursday, Jan. 28.
