Baby abandoned outside Atlanta home
An abandoned newborn with her umbilical cord still attached was found by a southwest Atlanta family returning to their home Monday evening.
The infant, who was wrapped in a Hello Kitty blanket, was transported to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite Hospital, CBS46-TV reported.
Investigators have nicknamed the hours-old newborn “Baby Harlan” after the street in which she was found.
Capt. Terrell Griffin said the main focus early on Tuesday was to find the mother to make sure she has received proper medical treatment.
Three family members who live at the home found discovered the baby girl on their porch.
At the this time police said no additional information is available.
A pair of bloody women’s underwear was found in a nearby area.
“We’re still investigating. We don’t know why the baby was there so we don’t have enough right now to said there’s going to be any charges”, said Lt. Murphy.
Rather than being angry with the mother, neighbor Christopher Williams just hopes that this baby’s birth parent is safe. Investigators are working to determine if it is related to the child.
Anyone with information regarding the case is encouraged to call the Atlanta Police Department Special Victims Unit at 404-546-4260 or Crime Stoppers Atlanta at 404-577-TIPS.
“Baby Harlan” will stay in the hospital for a few days to be monitored before being taken into DFCS custody.
