‘Baby Doe’s’ biological father in court for arraignment of girl’s mother and
Suffolk County Assistant District Attorney David Deakin explained how a woman walking her dog found the girl June 25 in a plastic contractor bag on a rocky shoreline in the Boston Harbor after the bag drew the attention of her pet. Inside, authorities found the the child alongside two blankets, Deakin said.
Amoroso, the biological father, says Bond told him that her boyfriend had punched Bella in the stomach over and over again until she stopped breathing.
“I’m here for Bella”, he said.
The girl’s mother, 40-year-old Rachelle Bond, and her boyfriend, 35-year-old Michael McCarthy, have been arrested in connection with the girl’s death. Bella’s body was then kept in a refrigerator for some time before being placed on Deer Island.
Deakin said Bond told authorities McCarthy threatened to kill her if she told anyone what he had done to Bella. Rachelle Bond is charged as an accessory after the fact.
Megan Fewtrell, who claims she was Bella’s godmother, said she called investigators in July asking that they check on the tot. “You could have left Bella with me before anything happened”.
The medical examiner has ruled out all natural causes for the child’s death, the prosecutor said. I hadn’t heard anything. She was escorted from the courtroom while clutching a yellow stuffed duck, which she said Bella took to bed with her every night.
Joseph Amoroso said before court that he came to support 2-year-old Bella Bond, the daughter he never met.
“We received no tips naming Bella, her mother, or the location of their apartment”.
Michael Sprinsky told police he twice saw Bond and McCarthy lock Bella in a closet for 30 minutes to an hour “while she screamed to be let out”, Deakin said.
Sprinsky said Bond told him she had been off drugs for the last couple of days.
“She made a promise to me and to that baby that she would make it right and do better and she didn’t”, said Fewtrell.
Amoroso said he has been in Florida for a couple of years and returned to Massachusetts in August hoping to meet his daughter. “I couldn’t imagine some of the things that these people did to her. Even holding it in for that long as a mother”. Bond’s mother and her mother’s husband also procured restraining orders against Bond, the prosecutor told the court, explaining that a high bail was necessary to make sure that Bond appeared in court. “That’s it”.
Deakin said Bond reported that Bella’s head was swollen and she was gray and that she knew her daughter was dead when she picked her up. When the friend suggested she might be able to get Bella back now that she was clean, Bond broke down in tears, Deakin said, relaying the friend’s account. “She was playful”, said 24-year-old Natalie Camejo, who organized the vigil.
