Backstreet Boys and ‘NSync to make zombie Western
Fans of ’90s mega boy bands Backstreet Boys and ‘N Sync would have either been ecstatic or horrified to hear that members from each group are teaming up to make a western zombie feature film – yes, really.
Members of Backstreet Boys and *NSYNC will soon bury the hatchet… in the heads of some zombies, for a new movie from the studio behind Sharknado.
Self-professed horror fan Nick Carter says that he’ll be playing the hero, and he hopes that he can convince a few other pop stars to join the Dead 7 cast.
A ragtag band of gunslingers operating during a post-apocalyptic zombie plague.
“There’s a wish list of people that I want”, Carter told Rolling Stone. Carter said that he had other people in mind, some of them from the music industry, because he said he wanted it “to be musically based”. Carter is also considering adding another ’90s boyband star to the cast: Jordan Knight from New Kids On The Block.
While there are a fair few members of the Backstreet Boys that are supporting their bandmate with Dead 7, the only member of ‘NSync officially on board with the project so far is Joey Fatone.
In case you doubt the seriousness of their intentions, The Asylum’s David Latt -best known for SyFy’s Sharknado franchise- is producing the film.
Former ‘NSync frontman Justin Timberlake, who has not appeared in a film since 2013’s Inside Llewyn Davis, has yet to sign on for the project. “But there’s never been animosity”.
Carter attended the San Diego Comic-Con to promote the film. “I watched it, I’m like, ‘Okay, this is ridiculous but I’m still watching it and I think it’s awesome.’It’s popular because I think people love an outlet and love that kind of hokey-ness but it’s fun”.
“We’ve never done anything together collectively”, Fatone admitted.
