Backup Battle: Cowboys & Bears Second Stringers Take Center Stage
The Eagles looked terrific Monday night with rookie quarterback Carson Wentz making his second National Football League start.
Today the official injury report came out for the Bears and the Dallas Cowboys who will meet on Sunday Night Football and Bears’ fans, it didn’t get much better. Dallas allowed over 400 yards of total offense in the victory, which is something they’re going to want to keep an eye on going forward, but with contributions such as sacks from Jack Crawford and Tyrone Crawford, and a Barry Church interception, it shouldn’t be too hard for America’s team.
Streaks, stats and notes – Cowboys have lost eight straight at home dating to last year’s opener.
Josh thinks Dallas will “easily” beat Chicago. Dallas suffered a one-point loss to the New York Giants in Week 1. With rookie quarterback Dak Prescott at the helm for a broke-backed captain, the confidence is there. Alshon Jeffery led the Chicago receiving crew with 5 catches for 96 yards. Replacing the injured Tony Romo, Prescott has yet to throw an interception in 75 passing attempts. This is the ideal opportunity for rookie Ezekiel Elliott to shine on national television. The former Ohio State running back has rushed 41 times for 134 yards and 2 touchdowns on the season.
I personally wouldn’t be surprised if Elliott has his first career 100 yard rushing game, which would nearly double his total rushing yards for the first two weeks the season. Going against a Bears secondary that’s in its current state of disrepair he should be considered one of the top wide receiver plays this week.
The Bears are having to deal with a rash of injuries on the defensive side of the ball. If Cutler can’t go, Brian Hoyer would make 27th career start with fourth different team and first against Cowboys. He’s expected to miss two to three weeks, putting Brian Hoyer under center for Chicago. Cutler has been struggling even when healthy, as he’s 28-of-46 for 373 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions.
With the Chicago Bears traveling for a Sunday matchup with the Dallas Cowboys, running back Ka’Deem Carey and defensive tackle Eddie Goldman did not travel with the team and are officially out. He will undergo surgery on his right thumb and is out indefinitely.
The offense has scored just 21 points in two games and the defense has been bombarded by injuries.
See what else they had to say in the video above and be sure to check out Windy City Gridiron all season long for the latest Bears news and analysis. Fox and Pace have dropped 12 of their first 18 games running the team. If the Cowboys can gain a second win in a row, they will be back on track, but they still have a lot of work ahead of them this week.
