BACS payment problems for HSBC customers
Later in the morning, the bank admitted it had a problem with BACS payments.
HSBC said it is looking into problems.
The bank has not yet been able to give details of the number of customers affected, or the nature of the problem.
One Twitter user wrote: ‘None of my staff have been paid.
Thousands of HSBC customers have not received credits in their accounts on Friday following an IT failure. “HSBC when will this be sorted?” he tweeted.
HSBC customers have been left without their salary and other payments as it emerged that the bank is suffering an as yet unknown IT problem.
“There has been an issue affecting Bacs payments by some HSBC customers today”, a statement said.
The Bacs system processes transactions worth as much as around £50bn every day.
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused and are working hard to resolve the issue as quickly as possible”, the bank added. “The Bacs system is operating as normal and we are now working with our partners to help resolve this as quickly as possible”, a spokesperson said.
But this did mean that customers at other banks have not had money paid to them which was expected to have been received from HSBC accounts.
Payment issues were being highlighted on Twitter as early as 7.30am but at that stage HSBC was yet to even realise the glitch telling customers that it was not aware of any problems.
Missing payments: It is not known how many HSBC customers have been affected.
