Baggage Fees Chug Into the Amtrak Station
Customers are allowed to bring for free two personal items weighing up to 25 pounds and two carry-on bags weighing no more than 50 pounds each.
Amtrak announced this week that it would start charging an additional excess-baggage fee on October. 1 for those carrying more than the allotted amount of luggage.
Airlines aren’t the only ones charging you for your luggage.
The company said it is implementing the excess baggage fee because ridership is increasing on its trains.
Passengers touring by having young children within the year of two are permitted a further product for the young ones, say for example a child stroller or diapers package. It’s about safety and space.
The San Jose Mercury News adds that Magliari said the fee was aimed at a small percentage of Amtrak’s 31 million passengers.
Passenger advocacy groups cast a tired eye on the announcement, arguing that the ability to check bags for free is one of the things that makes train travel appealing to people who are unhappy with airline charges.
