Bahrain breaks up weapon, explosives smuggling attempt
MANAMA, Bahrain (AP) Bahraini authorities say they have broken up an attempt to smuggle weapons, ammunition and explosives into the island kingdom.
Meanwhile, Bahraini Religious leaders, scholars, clerics, MPs, Shura members, tribes, trade unions, sport clubs, youth associations, members of the business community and citizens joined a national outcry against “irresponsible” statements made by Ali Khamenei, the Iranian regime’s Supreme Leader, said a report in the Gulf Daily News.
He called on the Gulf Cooperation Council’s member states to denounce “Iran’s unsafe interventions in Bahraini security”.
Bahrain: Bahrain on Saturday said it disrupted an attempt to smuggle explosives into the country.
Al-Azhar urged Iran to stop making such statements that only deepen hatred among peoples and states, create an atmosphere of tension and instability in the region and serve the enemies of Muslim world.
During his sermon on Eid al-Fitr, Khamenie said that reaching an agreement between Tehran and Western countries would not change Iran’s policy towards “U.S. arrogant government”.
On July 23, Bahraini Interior Minister Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa had accused Iran of interfering in the Arab country’s domestic affairs and disrespecting the values of neighborly relations.
Manama accuses Shiite Iran of backing opposition demands in Bahrain for a constitutional monarchy and an elected prime minister.
Since 2011, Bahrain has witnessed a number of protests by the majority-Shiite population against the Sunni ruling family, backed by Saudi Arabia.
The kingdom recalled its ambassador to Iran at that time in protest at Tehran’s criticism of the crackdown, and reinstated him in 2012.
