Bahrain police officers killed in bombing south of capital, 6 others wounded
Anti-government activists have planted bombs that have killed or maimed police in the past.
A bomb blast in Bahrain has killed two policemen and critically injured a third in the area of Sitra, the country’s interior ministry said.
The Sunni-ruled kingdom often accuses Iran of stirring up unrest among the island kingdom’s Shi’ite majority.
The Interior Ministry described the bombing as a “terror blast”, and said it took place in Sitra. Two policemen were killed and four severely wounded. Iran invalidates intruding in Bahrain but widely holds up critical individual groups searching for higher way because of its Shi’ite neighborhood.
The 5 Dimensions team added, “The political and diplomatic atmosphere heated up considerably over the past 96 hours between Iran on one hand and Bahrain and Saudi Arabia on the other due to intercepted explosives and weapons shipments originating from Iran and destined to Bahrain and Saudi Arabia”.
The explosives used in the bombing were similar to those seized, state news agency BNA reported.
Al Wefaq, Bahrain’s largest Shia opposition movement, condemned the attack in a statement on its website, saying “such acts are alien to the wide peaceful popular movement which is demanding a democratic transition in Bahrain”.
On Saturday, the government said it had foiled an arms and explosives smuggling plot by two Bahrainis with ties to Iran, and recalled its ambassador to Tehran.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif called on Sunday for a united front among Middle Eastern nations to fight militancy during a visit to Kuwait.
