BAI greets Sindhu with Rs.5 lakh reward on winning in Malaysia
Ace Indian shuttler PV Sindhu has eased past Kirsty Gilmour to win the Malaysia Masters Grand Prix Gold tournament here on Sunday.
Double World Championship bronze medallist Sindhu survived some anxious moments before beating her world no. 8 Korean opponent 21-19, 12-21, 21-10 in a semi-final that lasted an hour and nine minutes. In between, she won three successive titles at the Macau Open.
The second seeded Indian gave a tough fight in the first game, only to lose it by a close margin of 25-27. Kirsty bagged $4,560 for finishing as runner-up.
But Sindhu saved the best for the last as she played brilliant badminton in the deciding set. In the second game, the Indian shuttler had an easy sailing to the title. She went and hugged national coach Madhumita Bisht, who was sitting in her corner before standing on the top step of the podium. Gilmour managed to win only four points after that and Sindhu was crowned the champion in Malaysia. This was Sindhu’s first win over the South Korean since October 2013 as Sung had won the previous two meets.
She had a healthy 12-6 lead which she increased to 18-10.
