Bailey is sharp in return as Reds beat Padres 3-2
DeSclafani has had success against the Padres this year already, doing his part in a five-hit shutout against the Padres back on June 26th. Appearing in 35 games as a rookie, the majority of his big league action actually came during that 2013 season. While the win meant that the Reds won their fifth straight series coming out of the all-star break, it was a win for the Reds moving forward as the Reds finally got their ace back.
DeSclafini will be making his 10th start of the season Saturday night.
Brandon Finnegan shut out the Padres for six innings to lead the Reds to a 6-0 victory on Friday night.
DeSclafini has a 3.09 earned run average since starting his 2016 season 10 weeks late due to a strained left oblique muscle suffered in his last spring training start.
“I was just throwing a fastball and slider and it’s not too hard to hit that – a starter throwing two pitches”, Finnegan said. His record moves to 6-8 with a 4.68 ERA.

The San Diego Padres attempt to overcome a flat performance in the opener when they host the Cincinnati Reds on Saturday for the middle contest of their three-game series.
The 28-year-old right-hander amassed just 4.1 innings of work on Sunday against the Reds.
The 26-year-old Dickerson – a.382 hitter this year at Triple-A El Paso – had homered in four straight games when Padres manager Andy Green inserted him as his clean-up hitter for the second time on Friday only to have a first-inning collision prevent the Poway native from taking any swings. “But he has to hit his spots to be in command”. Straily has produced quality starts in each of his last five appearances.
His ERA has climbed in each of his last seven starts, ballooning from 2.12 to 5.00.
Sheriff’s deputies will line the base paths during the pregame ceremony and nine deputies will take the field to greet Padres starters at each position.
“That feels good and it doesn’t matter where you are in the standings”, Price said. “He’s going to give you everything he has”.
