Bajirao Mastani and Dilwale storm the box-office
2015 for Bollywood ends with a surprise box office bonanza as Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani starring Ranveer Singh has defeated Shahrukh Khan starrer Dilwale at the box office. Come second Friday, the film faced major competition from the global release Star Wars: The Force Awakens, with collections falling below Thursday’s numbers.
‘Dilwale’ and ‘Bajirao Mastani’ have been at logger heads with their same release dates.
He adds, ‘It is heartening to know that people are loving our film so all that numbers and mathematics eventually collapse when you like a film or you don’t like a film.
As of the second week, Bajirao Mastani and Dilwale are both in the Rs 100-crore club as far as their domestic box office collection is concerned.
The total collection of the film ‘Dilwale’ comes to Rs. 115.75 crore net approx.in ten days, whereas the ten days collection of ‘Bajirao Mastani’ is Rs. 118.25 crore net approx.
Bajirao Mastani may have picked up the pace only gradually but the film held gloriously well through the first week, earning a good Rs 86.15 crore domestically. Total collections of the Bhansali film are Rs 57.02 cr. Nevertheless, the film received average to negative reviews and was panned by many whereas Bajirao Mastani received tremendously positive reviews and a positive word of mouth that ensued helped the film take over in the second week by a huge margin and is now leading the pack. “So, when I have more number of screens but if people don t like the film it doesn’t matter”, he said. Dilwale had slightly better opening weekend in comparision to Bajirao Mastani.
Bajirao Mastani is the love story of Peshwa Bajirao and the half-Muslim princess Mastani, which also features Bajirao’s first wife Kashibai as a significant character, while the Rohit Shetty film is an action comedy.
