Bake Off bet cheats could score hundreds and thousands
The BBC is now investigating claims of a betting scandal among its employees – reportedly worth £10,000.
Ladbrokes said that workers at the corporation have been placing bets on the victor of the show, which was decided on during the summer.
It is claimed that 529 bets have been made by 42 suspicious accounts recently opened with Ladbrokes.
“But they are not that smart as they have been using their own names to open accounts”.
“A quick Google and you can see two or three are in TV and have close links to the BBC and GBBO’s production company”.
This year’s final features mum Nadiya Hussain, trainee anaesthetist Tamal Ray and travel photographer Ian Cumming, and will air on Wednesday evening at 8 pm (1900 GMT).
“They must think we’re a bit thick, but we know how to sniff out amusing business like this”.
The Sun said the betting company had launched a probe, while the BBC has asked the newspaper for more details.
Meanwhile a rep for the makers of Great British Bake Off, Love Productions, added: “We take any allegation of breach extremely seriously”.
The Bake Off final is on BBC1 on Wednesday.
The practice has paid off, and throughout the competition she was crowned “star” baker three times – but she still remembers the disasters.
The prime minister has revealed that he is a fan of the show and has a favourite – Nadiya Jamir Hussain.
The Leeds native recently told the Radio Times that she hopes to prove herself by winning the show.
She said: “My least enjoyable experience had to be when my vol au vents went horribly wrong. But as soon as I got on the train to Bake Off, I would look forward to seeing the other bakers”.
