Baker Mayfield ‘definitely’ in conversation for Browns’ No. 1 pick
Branch, who will announce the team’s second-round picks on Day 2 of the draft as part of the NFL’s initiative to link past and present, had seen former teammate Kevin Faulk do that two years ago when he was announcing picks. Numerous players projected as top 10 picks tossed footballs with youngsters Wednesday and participated in modified drills.
A four-year player for the Wolfpack, Chubb accumulated 198 total tackles and 25 sacks throughout his career.
Kiper noted Chubb “could have entered the 2017 and been in the first-round discussion”, but also that “Chubb doesn’t have quite as high of a grade as Myles Garrett did past year”. Only three players in the FBS had more.
But what about a defensive back, you say? Past ACC Defensive Player of the Year winners include Vic Beasley, Aaron Donald and Luke Kuechley.
During the 2017 college football season, Darnold and Rosen were seen as the top two QBs in the draft. He played at MI, and was a fifth round choice by the New England Patriots.
Where will Chubb go? Los Angeles here might decide to trade for a second round pick, but shouldn’t be willing to give too much for it.
In just a few days, all 32 National Football League franchises will take part in a three-day extravaganza where teams will select from a pool of the best college athletes from across the nation as they try to better the talent-level of their organization. New Browns GM John Dorsey reportedly knows whom he will select with the first pick, but he’s keeping everyone, including his head coach, in the dark. “I want to go somewhere I think I’ll do well, and if that team feels I will do well, pick me”. The Browns pick first, followed by the Giants, Jets and Cleveland again.
And the fact that (thanks to Dorsey) for the first time in forever the number one pick is still completely unconfirmed and truly unknown only adds to the suspense of what will happen to the Browns this Thursday through Saturday. But my team picks third, making it hard to screw up the math.
Anything said in pre-draft press conferences might be calculated gamesmanship, but it’s clear the Giants hold Penn State running back Saquon Barkley in high esteem.
The Jets are going quarterback, there’s no denying that.
Now, Garrett was a worthy selection and will likely become a fine pro, but in the six starts prior to his season-ending injury in 2017, Watson proved himself a franchise quarterback and Rookie of the Year favorite. If they believe they need a running back above anything, they’ll snatch an early tailback. The Denver Broncos now own the fifth pick, which is another possible destination for Chubb should the other teams pass on the Raleigh talent. The organization with the poorest history of drafting quarterbacks elected not to take a passer and instead picked defensive end Myles Garrett. Shane Ray, the current outside linebacker for Denver, may also be on the hot seat. If Darnold can sit for a year and learn from Manning that would be the best possible situation for him. Numerous experts have Chubb as an instant starter, with multiple Pro Bowls in his future. I want him to put me up on the board.
