Baker Mayfield named Big 12 Co-Offensive Player of the Week
After an atrocious freshman year that threatened to fully derail Tulsa’s long and reasonably uninterrupted run of solid quarterback play, Evans came into last season as the incumbent looking to improve himself.
Oklahoma is just scratching the surface of what new offensive coordinator Lincoln Riley’s Air Raid offense can do, and the Sooners already are breaking school records and topping national leaderboards. Perine ran for 152 yards and a score and Mayfield ran for 85 yards and two touchdowns.

Mayfield, after sitting out 2014 as a transfer, won the starting job over Trevor Knight in fall camp, and if there were any question that he deserved that selection, he has quickly put that to rest with his performance in the first three games. West Virginia is second at plus-2.5 per game, plus-5 for the season, heading into Saturday’s game against Maryland.
144 – Receiving yards by Sterling Shepard in the Tulsa game. No other Western Michigan receiver has more than 18 receptions. That is the fifth highest halftime total in program history.
Tulsa immediately marched to a touchdown of their own, with Zack Langer scoring from a yard out to make it 38-31. That is the fourth most given up by a Sooner team coached by Bob Stoops.
Through three quarters, Mayfield had only completed 8 of 25 pass attempts for 84 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions. That is the second most in a single game in OU history.
