Ball St coach Lembo to become Maryland assistant
Lembo has accepted a job as an assistant under DJ Durkin at Maryland, according to CBS Sports’ Bruce Feldman.
Durkin has also added Aazaar Abdul-Rahim from Alabama as Maryland’s defensive backs coach, and Rick Court from Mississippi State as the Terps’ strength and conditioning coach.
Lembo, 45, was 33-29 in five seasons as coach at Ball State and is 112-65 as a college head coach.
His contract with Ball State had been scheduled to run from January 1, 2014 through February 28, 2019. He led Ball State to consecutive winning seasons in 2012 and 2013 with the Cardinals going to bowl games in each. “I tried to make a difference every day and I am proud of our many accomplishments on and off the field”. “They all will be deeply missed”. Lembo is a former offensive lineman and a graduate of Georgetown University in Washington, DC, and held coaching positions at UAlbany in New York, Dartmouth in New Hampshire, Lehigh in Pennsylvania, and Elon in North Carolina.
Lembo, who played at Georgetown, has been in a head coach since 2001. Seven football players earned their bachelor’s degree last week at Ball State’s fall commencement ceremony while two others were recently named to the MAC’s Distinguished Scholar Athlete list.
