Baltimore authorities investigate ‘Enjoy your ride’ sign on door of police van
Jarron Jackson said the department is taking the finding very seriously. An autopsy report found Gray’s most significant injury, on the lower left part of his head, was likely sustained sometime between the second and fourth stops, and possibly before the third.
The van appears similar to the type used to transport people who have been arrested, and the sign was mounted to a door that can only be seen from the inside of the back of the van when closed. Six police officers were charged in the case for “engaging in conduct that creates a substantial risk of death or serious physical injury to another”.
Photos of the sign, which surfaced on Facebook on July 1, shows the message inside the door of the police van is clearly meant to be read by its passengers.
CNN affiliate WBAL reported that the photos were taken Tuesday near the Central District Police Station.
Baltimore city police Sgt. Gray’s death sparked rioting and protests on the day of his funeral and heightened a USA debate over police brutality. “We have recently become aware of the wording and have begun an internal investigation to determine all the circumstances surrounding its placement and to identify the person or persons responsible for its posting”.
The report said Gray’s death could not be ruled an accident and is instead a homicide because officers didn’t follow safety procedures ‘through acts of omission.’. The news station said Baltimore Police officials have confirmed the authenticity of the photos and have launched an internal investigation and condemned the sign.
