Baltimore authorities investigate photos of ‘Enjoy your ride’ sign inside
Baltimore authorities have launched an internal investigation after a photo taken earlier this week showed a sign reading, “Enjoy your ride, cuz we sure will!” on the inside of a door of a police van.
“The nature and the posting of the wording is both concerning and unacceptable”.
A sarcastic sign posted in a police van is now threatening to re-ignite public tension with the Baltimore Police.
Based on the images, the sign seems positioned so that people in the back of the van will see it. Officers often place arrestees in such vans to transport them to a police station.
The Guardian reported that the Baltimore police department is now inspecting all of its vehicles and that cameras will be installed inside police vans.
The autopsy found the injury, similar to those suffered in shallow-water diving, was most likely caused when the van suddenly decelerated, reports The Baltimore Sunday.
The sign’s authenticity has been confirmed by the city’s police, which told ABC News in a statement that the department has launched an internal investigation.
The revelation comes after six officers were charged in the death of Freddie Gray, who was fatally injured in police custody. “Internal investigations will be initiated when appropriate”.
The USA Department of Justice is investigating city police to determine whether there is a “pattern or practice” of violating constitutional rights or engaging in discriminatory policing. “This is an incident that is being taken very seriously”.
