Baltimore Ravens at New England Patriots
It is going to be one of those games where you expect the Patriots to roll, but for some reason the Ravens seem, week in and week out, to get the job done. We want to eliminate big plays.
If it weren’t for the Ravens Special Teams, this game wouldn’t have been close at all.
The New England Patriots are hosting the Baltimore Ravens on Monday Night Football tonight. Rookie Cyrus Jones would muff a punt, leading to a Darren Waller touchdown pass from Joe Flacco for the Ravens. Either way, the confidence is back with the Ravens and the offense is helping out the defense finally. There was no help over the top.
“We do appreciate it”, Harbaugh said of the rivalry with New England.
Flacco set a franchise record with 37 completions, but 20 of them were for six yards or less. However, New England’s Patrick Chung recovered the onside kick and the Patriots (11-2) were able to run out the clock. They have been standing on a ledge all season, but it’s important to recognize that they are still standing after all they have been through.
It’s been an up-and-down week for New England. Both of his touchdowns came on short fields after the Patriots’ fumbles. The Ravens have, however, the best rushing defense in the league, conceding just under 74 yards per game, meaning that this is going to be a high quality clash. Hogan finished with 5 receptions, 129 yards, and 1 touchdown.
It was New England’s second blocked field goal of the season as Alan Branch blocked a 54-yard attempt by the Jets’ Nick Folk on November 27.
The Eagles are the next must-win on the Ravens’ December dance card, but what else is new?
In addition to his work at wide receiver, Whalen has returned 29 kickoffs for 701 yards (a 24.2-yard average) and 46 punts for 376 (an 8.2-yard average). Tight end Dennis Pitta had nine catches for 90 yards and two touchdowns, part of a unit that features veteran Steve Smith, speedster Mike Wallace and promising Breshad Perriman at wide receiver.
It marked the third safety the Patriots have scored this season. With a win the Patriots not only would own the best record in the conference with three games to play, but theyd move to within only a Miami loss or tie and a Pittsburgh loss or tie of clinching a first-round bye.
Later in the quarter, the Ravens lined up for a 34-yard Tucker field goal. The last occurred after Baltimore had a first-and-goal from New England’s 9-yard line but settled for a field goal. Initially touted as a competitive matchup, the reigning Super Bowl champions were humbled by a tough New England defense and the Ravens lost, 41-7. On the first play, Kenneth Dixon was swallowed up by Malcolm Brown for a safety and it was 2-0. He put up three touchdowns and 406 passing yards, including the big play late in the fourth quarter to seal the game. The Ravens have wins in four of their last five games while the Patriots, who have won three straight and seven of eight, would clinch their eighth straight division championship with a victory.
