Baltimore’s Homicide Count Has Surpassed New York City’s
This morning police confirmed a 28-year-old man shot in the 500 block of South Catherine Street on Wednesday night died of his injuries.
The number of murders in Baltimore hit 212 on Thursday, overtaking the number of homicides recorded in 2014 with over a third of the year left to go.
According to police figures, there were 211 homicides in the city last year and 135 on this date in 2014.
Baltimore has had more killings than New York City this year, and its homicide rate per 100,000 people is greater than New York’s and Chicago’s.
Police are also investigating three other shootings from overnight in which four people were injured. Police said a man and a woman walked into separate hospitals for treatment of gunshot wounds suffered at the same location.
