Ban Salman Butt for Life; Ijaz Butt
The trio were suspended in 2010 for arranging no-balls to order during a Test match in England, as part of a complex betting scam uncovered by a tabloid newspaper sting that rocked cricket and also saw all three and their disgraced agent Mazhar Majeed serve time in jail.
The ICC’s five-year ban on former Pakistan skipper Salman Butt and bowler Mohammad Asif ended today, but the pair will be put under strict monitoring by Pakistan Cricket Board(PCB) before being allowed to play again.
“I sincerely apologise to everyone I have hurt – my colleagues, my fans, family and my country”, he said in a statement. According to the Dawn, Thirty-year-old Butt admitted that he needs to perform consistently if he wants to play at the worldwide level.
Amir said he wanted to win over doubting fans through his performances.
“No matter how sorry I feel I can’t change the past”.
He added that he would strive to start fresh and make a cleaner and brighter history, for himself and for Pakistan.
“Anyone who has defamed Pakistan in such a manner can not be allowed to walk back as if this was a simple thing”, Tanvir told Pakpassion in an interview.
Earlier, the ICC had confirmed that Mohammad Asif and Butt will be eligible to return to competitive cricket, at both the domestic and global level, from September 2, 2015 after fulfilling the specific conditions laid down by the independent Anti-Corruption Tribunal.
While former captains Ramiz Raja and Rashid Latif vociferously opposed the tainted trio’s return to the national side, pace legends Wasim Akram, Imran Khan and Shoaib Akhtar advocated a second chance.
