Bangladesh completes series whitewash over Zimbabwe
The left-hander picked up three wickets in the second One-Day worldwide (ODI) against Zimbabwe on Monday, which Bangladesh won by 58 runs to bag the three-match series 2-0, reports Xinhua.
The 20 year-old Mustafizur dismissed openers Chamu Chibhabha and Regis Chakabva before the start of the seventh over to set the tone of another dismal chase from the tourists.
Sean Williams (64) and Elton Chigumbura (45) gave Zimbabwe’s innings a few impetus but the dismissal of the former ended any hopes they had of a consolation victory.
Rahim’s dismissal left the onus on out-of-form Mahmudullah to rally the side, but wickets tumbled around him with Zimbabwe’s bowlers operating with renewed confidence.
Imrul Kayes smashed his back to back half-century.
The teams will contest two T20Is at the same venue on Friday and Sunday.
Tamim Iqbal registered a man of the match performance as Bangladesh defeated Zimbabwe for the third time in series in Mirpur. The team management did not want to tinker with a winning combination and their faith was vindicated by Tamim and Imrul, who posted the 11th hundred-run opening stand for the Tigers this year. He overtook Shakib Al Hasan (2,050) and reached 2,056 before walking back.
Kayes’ 95-ball knock had six boundaries and four sixes while Tamim hit seven fours and a six in his 98-ball innings.
Rahim was as usual street-smart, rotating the scoreboard with a series of singles.
India-based website CricHD will stream the Bangladesh vs. Zimbabwe third and final ODI at this link, but viewers there will have to put up with numerous advertisements that can cause all kinds of trouble for browsers and computer systems when trying to watch live online. Nasir Hossain added 41 while Sabbir Rahman 33 runs.
Cremer then dismissed Liton Das for 17 and took two catches at point off Luke Jongwe in the same over to send Sabbir Rahman (one) and Nasir Hossain (nought).
Thereafter, Mahmudullah led a solo charge even as wickets fell at the other end.
He survived a run-out as Chakabva broke the stumps accidentally with his gloves before the fielder’s direct throw hit them.
Jongwe and Cremer took two wickets each for Zimbabwe.
