Bankrupt Parma Forced To Sell Off Trophies To Raise Cash, Mario Melchiot
The club, that once boasted Hernan Crespo, Lilian Thuram, Fabio Cannavaro and Gianluigi Buffon in its ranks, is bankrupt and is starting the new season in Italy in Serie D under a new name after being dissolved last season with debts of over €200 million.
It is likely that Parma will need to appeal to Uefa to get permission to sell off their silverware as current Uefa rules state, “replica trophies awarded to winners of competitions must remain within the relevant club’s control at all times and must not leave the clubs country without Uefa’s prior consent”.
While the old Parma is dead, the Italian city isn’t soccer-less.
Everything must go! The entrance to Parma FC’s training ground.
“Declarations of interest must be received by 6 PM on 11 September 2015, and then be accompanied by a final offer by 12 October 2015, as well as a security deposit of 10 per cent for each item”.
The trophies for sale, according to The Guardian, include: three Coppa Italias won in 1992, 1999 and 2002; the Cup Winners’ Cup from 1993; the 1994 European Super Cup; the UEFA Cups from 1995 and 1999; and the Italian Super Cup from 1999.
While prices are not listed, nearly everything imaginable is up for grabs.
“The items, including trophies, sports equipment, the audio-video archive and the trademark “Parma FC” are listed on the bankruptcy inventory on the website www.fallimentiparma.com”.
