Bannon Berates Media As ‘Opposition Party’
FOLKENFLIK: The Republican public relations consultant Kurt Bardella says Bannon concluded that the media would be a flawless foil for Trump.
On Sunday, it was reported that Julia Hahn, a hardline immigration writer for Breitbart, was also expected to join the Trump White House as a special assistant to the president. He’s associated with the “alt-right”, which critics say is a masquerade for white nationalism.
“A uniquely toxic relationship”, is how Reuters columnist, Peter Apps, describes the current impasse.
“This voter registration plan is the product of an alliance between business-backed Republicans looking to control labour costs and Democrat politicians who believe voters from failed political states like Somalia and Ethiopia will be more receptive to their political platforms”.
For more than four decades since Richard Nixon’s administration, credentialed reporters from print and broadcast outlets have operated from assigned desks and cubicles behind the White House briefing room.
In other words, stop reporting the facts because they put the lie to Trump’s alternative reality. So what is behind it?
Jennifer Wishon of the Christian Broadcasting Network was called upon second and she asked about what message President Trump’s was sending by his reinstatement of he Mexico City policy, which bans using taxpayer dollars to fund organizations internationally that provide abortions? “We are part of an essential function in any democracy”.
It’s just one piece of Bannon’s ideological game of chess, rewiring the media landscape to clear the path for a radical reimagining of conservative politics in line with his own nationalist agenda. In terms of winning better coverage, bullying can work – but only in the short term. “They’re very dishonest, these are very dishonest people”.
“I have a running war with the media”, Trump said during a speech at the Central Intelligence Agency headquarters on January 21, before referring to a disagreement he and his team have had with the media regarding the size of his inaugural crowd, according to CBS News. “This kind of dishonesty in the media, the challenging – that bringing about our nation together is making it more hard”, said Spicer.
The new press secretary, Mr Sean Spicer, was criticised this week for making false claims at the White House podium about attendance at the inauguration.
One further explanation might be found in the “hitting head against brick wall” school of media management.
Bannon slammed the news media for being biased against Trump and out of touch with the American public. And as amusing as this sometimes might be for onlookers, there is a real danger.
Bannon’s reference to the media – not the Democratic Party – as the “opposition party” means that American news outlets have little grasp on the dynamics of politics and the electoral process.
