Barack Obama leads world response to ‘outrageous’ Paris attacks
Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull condemned the attacks in Paris and shared their concerns over China’s unilateral actions in the South China Sea during talks in the Turkish resort of Antalya, an aide to Abe said.
Bishop said she had spoken with acting Prime Minister Warren Truss and other ministerial members of the National Security Committee of Cabinet.
‘Isn’t it about time we said, hang on, our number one duty is to protect Australians, not to give a haven to people who want to kill people in the name of Islam?
Bishop said in a statement she was “aware of an Australian who had been injured in the Paris attacks” and her department was providing consular assistance to the injured person.
“Those go far beyond any act of terrorism or the hateful vision of those who perpetrated the crimes this evening”.
“We understand that these six separate terrorist attacks commenced at about 9.30pm Friday, 13th of November, in the heart of Paris”, she said. The numbers are still very fluid.
“In France and Australia, all around the world, we stand shoulder to shoulder with the people of France and with all free peoples in the battle against terrorism”, he said.
“I have been in contact with our ambassador in France, Stephen Brady”.
At this stage there are no reports of any Australians among the dead.
In a significant change of presentation, if not actual policy stance, Australia has recently been selected to chair the UN-sponsored Green Climate Fund, once dubbed by Tony Abbott as Bob Brown’s green bank on an global scale.
‘Close our borders we have enough anarchists already resident in Australia (our democracy) we do not need any more coming in disguised as refugees!!!!!!’ wrote assistant speaker of the NSW Parliament, Mr Fraser.
Only one Australian was injured in the attacks.
“The attack in Paris was an attack on all humanity”.
They also praised Australia for its efforts in promising to resettle 12,000 refugees from the Syrian crisis.
Mr Fraser said he expected the comments to cause controversy but they needed to be made. The embassy is staffed, fully operational, and available to assist any Australians in trouble.
The Minister said French authorities had declared a state of emergency.
