Barack Obama: Republican presidential candidates are like ‘Grumpy Cat’
President Barack Obama says the Republican presidential contenders seem a lot like Internet-superstar sourpuss “Grumpy Cat”, accusing the candidates of being both divisive and pessimistic. “We’re doomed!’ I know it’s political season but you listen to them and they’ve constructed this entire separate reality”.
“They are gloomy. They are like Grumpy Cat”, he added. “They’re like grumpy cat”, the president said Friday as he made a grumpy cat face.
“Overall, we are making enormous progress”.
Obama then went on to mimick the infamous Grumpy Cat frown that took the Internet feline to stardom and spawned thousands of memes.
“Democrats, we are at our best”, he said, “and America is at its best when we assume the best in others instead of the bad”.
Obama said he would support whoever the Democratic nominee for president is in 2016, prompting more laughter from the crowd of about 500 people. “What are you laughing about?”
Clinton received a hero’s welcome when she spoke to the forum earlier Friday, one day after being grilled by Republican lawmakers for hours over the 2012 terrorist attacks in Benghazi, Libya. – President Obama (June, 2013)”Look at what they value and look at their budget and what they’re proposing…They’re going to put y’all back in chains!”
ABC News Politics later posted the brief clip on Twitter, to make sure the “gloomy” Republicans don’t miss the presidential ribbing.
