Barack Obama’s “very own” Facebook page raises awareness about environmental
“Welcome, President Obama! I’m excited that you’ve joined our community, and I look forward to seeing how you engage with people here on Facebook”, Zuckerburg said.
Obama says he chose Facebook because “at a time when almost three in four adults online use Facebook, this feels like a great place to do it”.
Social media giant Facebook grew a little larger on Monday after President Obama launched his own personal page in an effort to connect with more Americans. “A place where you can hear directly from me”.
Obama’s first post is a two-minute video shot from the White House’s South Lawn.
It is possible for this Facebook page to also be handled by the 20- person social- media team that manages the president’s social media accounts, as it was reported by a few, but at the end of the day it doesn’t really matter if President Obama himself writes his posts or they are written by White House staff. What really matters is that the president of the U.S. is bold enough to launch a Facebook page where his thoughts on different matters will be able to meet the thoughts of regular people on the same matter.
In the video, Obama called on Americans to do their part to fight climate change. After running through the various “critters” he sees during his walks – There’s a fox!
Obama’s inaugural Facebook post comes ahead of the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference, according to The Huffington Post. “I just think about how I make sure the beauty of this particular national park, but also national parks all across the country and our planet and are going to be there for Malia, Sasha, their kids, their grandkids for generations to come”, the 44th Commander-in-Chief quipped.
President Barack Obama finally has his own Facebook page and his very first post is a meaningful message aimed at raising awareness for climate change. And that’s the biggest risk we face.
