Barack Obama says most world leaders ‘completely out of their minds’
Seinfeld took the president for a drive around the White House grounds in his shiny 1963 Corvette, before Obama invited Seinfeld to check out the presidential limo.
“Teddy Roosevelt would go up to Yellowstone National Park for like, a month”, Obama tells the comedian, when asked about one of his favorite presidents.
“So you’re looking around and thinking, what the hell is this”, he quipped.
The viewer also learns that Obama believes a “pretty sizable percent” of world leaders are out of their minds, and that he likes to swear to relieve tension. Some of you may not like to hear it, but Jerry likes to equate the cars he chooses to his guests, and in this episode he says that he picked America’s coolest vehicle for our coolest president.
“At a certain point, your feet hurt, you have trouble peeing”, Obama said. When you have it, “anonymity isn’t something you think about”, Obama says, but Seinfeld counters: “With all due respect, I remember very well not being famous”. “It’s a cool feature”.
Obama reportedly filmed the spot on December 7, a day after he delivered an address to the nation on terrorism that drew criticism that he wasn’t doing enough to tackle the Islamic State threat.
About the cars: one was a slate blue 1963 Corvette Stingray Split Window Coupe, selected because Seinfeld felt it evoked the best of American ingenuity and manufacturing.
After all, Obama qualifies as a comedian because of his more than passable one-liners over the years, even if his popularity rating wasn’t always high.
“I do this thing, Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee”, Seinfeld explains.
Obama’s appearance on the popular show is a departure for Seinfeld, who usually sticks to chatting with comedians like Louis C.K., Amy Schumer and Stephen Colbert. On Wednesday, Seinfeld made the pitch for him, turning to the camera to say: “Please try Obamacare today”.
