Barber lies on floor to give boy with autism his first haircut
The pictures of James and Mason on the floor together have since clocked up 24,000 “likes” and more than 4,000 shares. Jim Williams, owner of “Jim the Trim” in West Glamorgan, U.K., told ABC News that he was finally able to get Mason to sit still for a full haircut by lying down on the ground and giving the boy an iPhone to distract him.
On Tuesday, Mason laid on the floor calmly playing with his mother’s iPhone and so James seized upon the opportunity.
Mr Williams said at the end of the haircut he asked Mason for a high five and was given a big hug.
“People don’t realise how hard it can be for a child with ASD and how much it means to parents like me and Jamie”.
A patient and determined barber refused to give up on an autistic boy who was afraid of getting his haircut and he finally had a breakthrough. “Achieving something in a job I love making both parents happy by giving extra attention to mason by building a friendship at trust with mason & myself”. “I just starting cutting and kept cutting”.
When your child’s needs are more complicated than others, we can only imagine the effort you go to in helping them live happy, balanced lives.
At the time of writing, Williams’ post has been shared hundreds of times – with an overwhelmingly positive response. “I think Jim is fantastic with Mason”, Davies said.
“In the past getting Mason’s hair cut has been a real struggle”.
United Kingdom barber James Williams has been trying to cut Mason’s hair for months.
