Barca defender faces two-month injury layoff
The club tour around the United States ended with only one win after three games, but the results don’t really matter to Lucho.
After the typical pre-season flurry of changes later in the second-half, Sandro Ramirez lifted a lovely finish beyond the reach of Courtois, only for Tim Cahill to nudge in the 2-2 equaliser for Chelsea.
Following the game, Barcelona manager Luis Enrique offered his conclusions.
“It has been a more physically demanding game than usual after 10 days on tour”. In comments via Spanish outlet AS, the Asturuan coach explained: “We didn’t lose the game, we drew”.
Pedro is being linked with Manchester United this week. “Any injury is always bad news and makes me sad”.
“The news will come as a blow to Luis Enrique, who only has Dani Alves as a recognised right-back until January”. All I know are the rumours as I haven’t discussed this matter with him. We have been at an acceptable level on this tour. “We go back home happy”.
“Before this game we had only conceded three corners and conceded two goals”.
Nonetheless, Enrique was keen to point out: “The balance is very positive”.
He added, “We have been able to get playing time against top-quality opposition, we have had the chance to feel the support of lots of fans, who have been the majority in the grounds and we have been able to promote the club”.
The Champions League holders now head to Italy to play Fiorentina before hosting AS Roma, and will start their La Liga defence on August 14, away to Athletic Bilbao in a Friday night match.
Barcelona coach Luis Enrique has insisted that while he does not want any of his players to leave the Camp Nou this summer, a few may do so via their fee-release clause.
