Barcelona beats LA Galaxy 2-1 before record Rose Bowl crowd
Barcelona star Luis Suarez has implored his teammate Pedro to reject the advances of Manchester United, and Liverpool to stay at the Nou Camp.
Galaxy looked to make the most of that and in the end, they were rewarded with a goal in the very last minute, as Meyer headed home a corner.
Galaxy coach Bruce Arena went even further, but Luis Enrique said such sweeping changes were “logical” for both teams. The Liverpool legend also spent the majority of those years as captain of the club.
“Pedro’s thing is an individual decision”, Suarez told Spanish publication Marca. “We are all human and he wanted to win the title as much as anyone”, the 28-year-old said.
FC Barcelona’s Luis Suarez, right, celebrates his goal with Marc…
“Who is the best?” he then asked. An onrushing Suarez won the ball in the air – with Leonardo leaping and lifting his foot in an attempt to clear it – and appeared to handle it and he stepped forward.
Now, as the calendar counts down toward the start of a new season, Barcelona has arrived in the U.S.to kick off its preseason, starting with Tuesday night’s global Champions Cup contest against the Galaxy at the Rose Bowl.
The galaxy is in the middle of their season, fit and firing on all cylinders, with the new partnership of Steven Gerrard and Robbie Keane looking fruitful in front of goal already. “These matches will help get us ready”.
While it may have taken the Uruguay worldwide three months to open his Barcelona account in his maiden season with the club – with his suspension for biting at the 2014 World Cup playing a significant role – Suarez showed no such rustiness in California.
Suarez, on the other hand, followed a different path. While his time at Anfield was short-lived, the Uruguayan forward did manage to score an incredible 82 times for Liverpool in 133 contests before making his £75million move to Barcelona previous year. Mendiola challenged Barça goalkeeper Jordi Masip a few minutes later, and Lassiter had a good chance in the 74th, firing wide on a counterattack. One of the reasons why I’ve come to this team was to start all the games and play as many minutes as possible.
