Barcelona beats Real Sociedad 4-0 as Neymar, Suarez and Messi shine
Barca have now scored 14 goals and conceded just one while easing past Real Madrid, Roma and Real Sociedad in the space of eight days, but Luis Enrique said his team’s best moment of the season has yet to arrive. “I see my team very focused, with everyone motivated”.
All that was left was for Messi to end the game by scoring his side’s fourth goal, after being set up by a neat move between Suarez and Neymar.
Neymar said he wants to extend his Barcelona contract after scoring more in Saturday’s 4-0 La Liga win against Real Sociedad at the Camp Nou.
He also completed the full 90 minutes and scored twice in the 6-1 Champions League victory over Roma on Tuesday.
Messi soon had another chance to score after being played through on goal by Sergio Busquets, but he could only place his effort wide of the post.
“Messi has fitted back into the side, I saw Suarez pressuring after 92 minutes, Neymar pressuring and it is the same as we have been playing before. We hope our best moment is still to come”.
“Between them, they look for each other all the time and the objective is for them to be happy which happens when they score”, Alves told reporters.
“I’m not anxious at all, obviously we don’t like to lose in this fashion, but tonight’s defeat has nothing to do with the game against Bayern Munich previous year”.
The pair were both on the scoresheet as Barca romped to a 6-1 win over Roma just 24 hours earlier, confirming their position as group winners in the Champions League.
“I’m sure Ney and Luis think the same way-if that is the way it turns out [the three of them as Ballon d’Or finalists] then great and if not it doesn’t matter”.
They are four points clear of second-placed Atletico Madrid in Spain’s top flight after 12 matches, with Real a further two points back in third, and will be the overwhelming favourites at next month’s Club World Cup in Japan.
“We have never said that ourselves and it has been proved”, Messi said. “We have not been able to do it. It would have taken a miracle for something different to happen; they are stratospheric, invincible”.
“We try to be professional but to enjoy ourselves too and get on in the day to day”.
