Barcelona make Champions League history with stunning win over Paris Saint-Germain
With Lionel Messi at his best and leading an attack that has been scoring at will, Barcelona takes on Paris Saint-Germain with reason to believe it can reverse the 4-0 loss in the first leg of the competition’s Round of 16. They tried to bury us, and one day we’ll give up the throne, but today we proved that we’re still the best. They got off to a fast start, and took a 2-0 lead into halftime.
PSG still know that two minutes into five minutes of stoppage time they are still the strong favourites to go through on away goals, but there was a sting in the tail.
Those two results have lifted morale around the club and the Catalan press are talking about nothing other than fighting back against the PSG, but the fact is that Wednesday presents a totally different challenge given Barcelona’s lack of an away goal. They had their chance.
The home side were ahead after just three minutes when Luis Suarez headed past goalkeeper Kevin Trapp from close range.
Pandemonium ensued, as Roberto was buried beneath a mountain of celebrating Barcelona players and staff on the Camp Nou turf. That situation stood until the 88th minute, leaving even most optimistic Barςa supporters thinking their dream was over.
Goal 5: Neymar for Barcelona – Neymar with a lovely free kick. It was wonderful, but bound to be forgotten. With the aggregate score 5-3, Neymar scored on a sublime free kick to make the aggregate 5-4.
If Barcelona manage to proceed to the next phase, that will be maybe one of the greatest comebacks in history of football. At this point, the comeback was in the realm of possibility.
However, Neymar struck twice late on and with even goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen also forward in search of a victor – it was Sergi Roberto who will be remembered for sealing the mightiest of comebacks.
Barcelona pulled it off.
Luis Enrique, who is set to leave Barcelona at the end of the season, said his side always believed they would advance.
Neymar was the Man of the Match in FC Barcelona’s miracle comeback win over Paris Saint-Germain, and has now commented on the game, while Barca’s last-minute hero also had his say. They did the impossible.
