Barcelona squad is best ever, says Luis Enrique
This season has seen Barca sign midfielders Andre Gomes and Denis Suarez as well as defenders Lucas Digne and Samuel Umtiti, while Marc Bartra, Thomas Vermaelen, Dani Alves and Adriano have all left the club.
Barcelona coach Luis Enrique has hailed the club’s transfer business in the off-season, claiming that “on paper” his squad is now the strongest it has been in his three years at the Nou Camp helm.
Asked about his memories of Barca’s 1-0 win in London, the 46 year-old replied: “I don’t remember and it’s nearly better that I don’t remember”.
“We have to be open to the chance of improving the squad further”. A lot depends on what’s available. “If not, we continue with this squad, which is already great”, he added. “If we find one we will move forward”, he explained.
“I need to send a message to all Barca fans that this group of players is training hard”, he said. “We are working now as if we have never won anything”, he explained. This is a unique squad of players, I think.
“We have a squad that has been strengthened brilliantly”.
“All the new players have settled in well”. They are looking better than I expected. “They have quality and will have to compete for a place”.
