Barcelona Win Sevilla In 9-Goal Thriller — UEFA Super Cup
Barcelona won its fifth UEFA Super Cup in 5:4 extra-time win over their La Liga rivals Sevilla at Boris Paichadze Dinamo Arena Tbilisi.
The striker is wanted by Manchester United but would like to stay at the Nou Camp even though he is behind the pecking order of hit men.
United have earmarked Pedro as a major summer target as they look to replace Messi’s Argentina team-mate Angel Di Maria.
It could be a fairytale ending to his Barca career for the Spain global, with the club’s technical secretary Robert Fernandez having been quoted in the build-up to the game as saying: “Pedro has told me he wants to go”.
“It is not a question of money, but of minutes”, he said. It’s a question of continuity, of minutes.
Barcelona want to retain his services, but El Confidencial claim “there’s no turning back” for Pedro.
“The answer is no. But it is a hard, complicated situation”. “Personally I don’t know what his decision will be but we’re all with him and we’ll back him“.
“I will always be a Barcelona supporter, no matter what finally happens”. Such people shouldn’t speak in this way. “I was angry about not starting the game but as always I tried to be professional and go out and help”.
The European champions were cruising with a 4-1 lead early in the second half after a Lionel Messi brace and goals from Luis Suarez and Rafinha had cancelled out Ever Banega’s opener.
Barcelona’s winning goal followed another Messi free kick, with Pedro pouncing on the rebound.
“The match began strangely for us, we were losing but then I thought we were much better and stronger”, Messi said. I think it was a great game for the fans.
“I’m here now and I want to enjoy this title”.
“I am though very happy with the way that we won and showed the hard work that is necessary”. I don’t understand why he said I asked to leave using these words, he doesn’t know how I feel in this team.
Winning the treble last season has spurred Barcelona to try and win all six trophies up for grabs this year and replicate the feat they achieved in 2009, midfielder Andres Iniesta said on Monday.
