“We’re working toward freeing women’s nipples and obtaining equal gender topless rights that are enforced worldwide”, said Beatrice Charles of the local branch of GoTopless, the sponsor of the event. “In New York, police will block off streets to let our GoTopless Pride Parade pass”.

“It is only logical that GoTopless Day protests (or celebrations depending on the legal status of your city) would fall around Women’s Equality Day since the right to go topless for women is based on gender equality as their right to vote once was”, the organization writes on its page.
A few dozen women, and some men, went topless as they walked down Broadway in New York City. A giant balloon in the shape of a pair of breasts will float in the NYC’s sky.
It’s been legal to be bare-breasted in NY since 1992.
Parades are also scheduled in other cities, including Chicago, Washington D.C., Miami Beach and Venice Beach, California.
“Spiritual leader, Maitreya Rael, who inspired the creation of GoTopless and founded the Raelian Movement, says there must be absolute equality between men and women to ensure the preservation of society”, Perrier stated.
“Since 1992, NY has been one of the world’s few cities to legally recognize women’s topless rights”, Perrier said, adding that the past year has helped to further that right elsewhere.
Last year, the Venice Neighborhood Council approved a resolution supporting women’s right to go topless at the beach.
