Barrett returns as quarterback for No. 2 Ohio State
An additional charge of backing up recklessly was dismissed Tuesday.
William Pollitt Jr. also imposed a $400 fine and ordered Barrett to complete a three-day alcohol education program. Police said he registered a 0.099 on a test to measure his blood-alcohol content. Drivers under the age of 21 are considered impaired at 0.02 (it’s 0.08 for those older than 21) in Ohio. However, he did have his longest run of the season during the 28-14 win over Minnesota last week.
While it’s not easy to compare opponents, Barrett accounted for 324 running and passing yards and five touchdowns in a 49-7 win against Rutgers on October 24 in his first start of the season.
The biggest difference in the two quarterbacks is Barrett’s running ability, especially his ability to run the option, which means defenses can’t focus as much on stopping running back Ezekiel Elliott. Templeton says Barrett realizes that was a mistake but also noted Barrett hadn’t planned to go out that Halloween night as others did.
Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett is back as the starter this week (and likely beyond) after serving his one-game suspension against Minnesota. “He just hit his head and said it felt like he couldn’t move at that time so he just laid there and made sure everything was all right”.
“If J.T. has a good week of practice, he will get to start against IL”, Meyer said. “We think Ohio State is strong”. Minnesota has three games left, all against teams which now have a winning record, and will need to win two of them.
That’s why Meyer said sending Jones back to the bench was hard. Barrett had been arrested and charged after trying to turn his vehicle around. This season, the St. Louis native has rushed for 1,244 yards, and became the first Buckeye since Chris “Beanie” Wells to rush for consecutive 1,000 yard seasons. He is going to be a nightmare for the IL defense come Saturday. For those of you fortunate enough to have been exposed to Omar’s wisdom, perhaps you can understand why I refuse to put Ohio State in the top spot in my weekly Big Ten power rankings.
“Probably every school in the country, that’d be disabling”, receivers coach Zach Smith said. He’s a kid that’s human, and I still have these conversations with him.
