Basketball: Curry drops 46 as Warriors stay flawless
The Warriors now stand alone as the only unbeaten team in the National Basketball Association this year.
Behind 46 points from Stephen Curry, the Golden State Warriors defeated the Timberwolves 129-116.
At 10-0, Golden State is off to the best start in franchise history. “It doesn’t mean anything obviously”. I thought we believed we could win. “I still believe we can win, and we will down the line if we keep playing this hard”.
It’s easy to say that they will win because of a player by the name of Wardell Stephen Curry II, but this team is much more than just the reigning MVP. He scored nine points in a 1 minute, 6 second span early in the quarter, after which he had nine of the Warriors’ 13 points to the Timberwolves’ two total. Assistant coach Luke Walton has guided the team in Kerr’s absence. “He’s always in attack mode”. The Warriors had a 40-23 lead. Plenty of folks have talked about Miller being completely washed up over the last two weeks, but tonight proved the 17-year veteran has a few solid play left in the tank.
Ricky Rubio of the Wolves is steadily improving and is slowly being considered one of the best guards in the league and the hype he is getting will be thoroughly tested as he will head up against the defending Most Valuable Player, Curry.
After trailing by 12 points in the first half, the Hawks pulled away down the stretch. Every trey Curry makes is highlight worthy. But the first splash was special.
“Guys are really trying to step up for that matchup now – they don’t want to get embarrassed or go onto YouTube and see a Curry highlight!” It’s not necessarily that LaVine is a bad on-ball defender, but apparently has not figured out how to get through screens.
Curry has led the charge, shooting with a precision and range never before seen in this league.
The Warriors did not let the Wolves get any closer.
Especially against the firepower of the Warriors and Curry, who found their way out of the mud and again into the winner’s circle. Shaun Livingston hit a turnaround jumper from the left baseline.
Kawhi Leonard added 20 points and Argentine reserve guard Manu Ginobili pitched in with 14 for the Spurs.
Minnesota fought valiantly after trailing by 13 points to end the first quarter.
But stepping forward was Andre Iguodala, who came off the bench to score 20 points and hit four 3-pointers.
Paul George collected 26 points and 10 rebounds as the Indiana Pacers won 102-91 over the Boston Celtics on the road.
So far, Wiggins has tied a career high with 33 points on 15-of-22 shooting in a 117-107 victory at Atlanta. Rookie Karl-Anthony Towns had 17 points and 11 rebounds. The Timberwolves (4-3) have dropped their first three contests there for the first time since an 0-10 start in 1994-95.
Golden State felt that a seven-point lead wasn’t acceptable and put Draymond Green and Curry back in game.
